Taste the difference -Al Gassar Resort

Once you’ve been to one hotel Suhoor, you’ve been to them all, right?

Wrong: Suhoor at Al Gassar Resort proves that you don’t have to follow the herd and provide an abundance of everything.

What it does is concentrate on the best-loved Arabic food and has a little fun with it. We were brought a selection of cold mezze to start and what we quickly noticed was that presentation is everything here. We particularly enjoyed the mini cones filled with hummus to deliver a smooth, tasty savory treat, and the za’atar pastry filled with labneh and beef bacon which looked like a pretty sweet.

We enjoyed it so much we asked for another plate, which arrived with the hot mezze: a good selection of meat and cheese pastries, a warm aubergine dish, topped with crunchy bread pieces and a tasty Koshari (a macaroni, lentils and rice dish).

The stylishly-designed room is subtle yet decadent. Low couches and tables with ample room around them. There are also the lovely traditional lamps and a central dessert station that also has room for a band – now that did get a ‘Wow!’

And once we’d had our fill of hot and cold mezze it was time to select our own sweets. I had to walk around the station a few times: one to burn the calories I was about to consume, and two to have a serious think about what top 3 desserts would end up on my plate. There was so much choice that I think I’d have to go back for this alone.

Particular highlights were the saffron ice cream and the pear tart.Divine. And so was the service, which served just the right amount of attentiveness.

What is really great about taking Suhoor here is that it allows you to be social. Your dishes are brought to the table, so your conversations can flow naturally. It felt like a special experience, which lived up to the promise.
