Lemon & Mint
Fattoush

Value certainly isn’t served here

It pains us to write a not-so-positive review. We feel that perhaps we should be less picky, or maybe give the cafe or restaurant in question a second visit to see if it can redeem itself, but the truth of the matter is we have no intention to step into Aroma Garden ever again.

This review could easily become a rant, so lets start with the important stuff: the food.

What we ate:

Fattoush – 30 QR

It was a perfectly decent portion of Fattoush, with the nice addition of pomegranate seeds. Good size, but the price left me wondering how everyone else is doing is for so much less.

spicy tomato and cheese saj fatayr

Something and cheese Fatayr – 25 QR. Yes 25!

We thought this would be a spicy tomato and cheese saj fatayr. It was indeed saj fatayr, and it contained the cheese, but there only a faint whisper of tomato and sadly no spice, which left us feeling that maybe we had merely dreamt our order.

Chicken with olives and lemon – 60 QR

This dish kind was tasty, but it was topped with a rather unattractive creamy sauce, that may or may not have contained lemon or olives. Perhaps they used olive oil to marinade the chicken. Perhaps a lemon got introduced to the dish but then made a quick exit when it saw the sad looking vegetables served up alongside. We will never know.

Service was served with a smile, and was efficient (the waiters wear watches that bleep them when you press a service table-top device). We were seated by the kids play area, which did bring some entertainment to the evening: the kids joyful screams were interrupted by a loud thud like something had fallen and the high jinx screams were replaced with ones of terror. Then a small girl ran out and told us the roof has fallen. We took a look and a rather large section was on the floor, the exact opposite place it should be. Thankfully no one was hurt, but in the 10 minutes that we took to pay up and leave (we should have ran) it didn’t appear that the management had closed off the area.

What we learnt the hard way:

If you’re not into shisha and would like a meal sans smoke, they’ll sit you out in the back in an area that looks a little unloved. The décor sadly doesn’t resonate the prices of the dishes. Plus you’ll also enjoy the sound of screaming kids. Bliss.

The damage: For the above and 2 juices (24 QR each) = 163 QR
