Lemon & Mint

Doha’s sweet spots

Coffee. Cake. Combined. That’s what this post is all about. And, it’s so hard to find places in Doha that do both well. Take Illy café. One of THE best places for coffee yet the pastries look so sad and unenticing.  Beige and boring they aren’t pleasing to the eye and so we just enjoy the coffee wishing we had something sweet to complement our coffee.

We didn’t want to give you the obvious choices: for that there’s PAUL (there’s nothing we don’t like here) and Brioche Doree another French patisserie whose coffee and pastries get our hearts beating faster.

We bring you places that you might not have thought of, some restaurants where you can meet a friend for coffee and a catchup and divide the guilt of the extra calories by sharing something sweet together.

Desserts in Qatar- Lemon Tart at Cafe 999
It’s lovely and lemony

Cafe 999

With a relaxing outdoor seating area (which isn’t exactly ideal in this humidity) this place comes into its own in cooler weather. It’s modern interior, close proximity to the gallery and art shop means it’s the perfect place to get your culture and cake fix. So far, we’ve tried the lemon tart and the carrot cake both of which are good enough to erase any sense of guilt.

A little (bite-sized) piece of Portugal. Image supplied by Nando’s – thanks guys.
Lotus Cheesecake – It’s a thumbs up from us

Nando’s

Known as the home of its legendary Peri-Peri chicken, Nando’s isn’t your first thought for a place to grab coffee and dessert, but feeling a little too saintly for our quinoa salad option (it’s very good BTW) we thought why not try out the coffee and dessert deal for 29QR.

We tried the lotus cheesecake which is a sweet dream of a cheesecake, and we also recommend the Natas, the Portuguese custard tarts that give you just enough of a sugar hit to keep you powered up for your shopping trip. It’s a very good offer and the portion is enough to share between two, so next time you’re in Gulf Mall, Mall of Qatar, City Centre or Hyatt Plaza take a shopping spree pit-stop here.

Desserts in Qatar - Cronut
Meet the croissant doughnut hybrid

The French Olive

There’s a lot to love about French Olive. The stylish interiors. The warm, friendly staff (smiles every time) and the recent afternoon tea deal. Man, it’s a good offer. Between 3-6pm you can order a hot drink and a pastry or cake (max value of 30QR) for 25QR! We haven’t tested the deal yet. But we have tried their coffee and desserts and can say we haven’t had a bad one yet. Their eclairs are top-notch, their carrot cake feels homemade and bursting with flavor, their cronuts get you wanting more. Plus, there a rich hazelnut cake that feels like you have found the best thing since Ferrero Rocher.

Go on, spoil a friend with these very affordable treat. If you are just after coffee, do read our post about our favorite coffee spots in Qatar.
